Frida, a family story

Everything begins with a name. FRIDA was not chosen at a desk: it is the union of two names that mean everything to us. FRanco and IDA, my parents. Their initials, woven into a single word, became the most natural way to name this place — a gesture of recognition, of gratitude, and at the same time a tribute to the traditions they passed on to us.

When you cross the threshold of Frida Suite, you enter a story that began long before us.

This space, in the heart of the historic centre of Noci, in Puglia, has come to us through the hands of those who came before. First it belonged to my grandparents, Alessandro and Margherita, who passed it on to my parents. Then my parents, Franco and Ida, passed it on to me. Three generations, the same threshold, and each time the same gesture: caring for a place so it can welcome whoever comes next.

It is not simply a transfer of property. It is a small chain of dedication — different hands working the same space with the same love. When Federica and I began to imagine what we might make of it, we felt that the right thing to do was to carry that chain forward — not break it, not transform it beyond recognition, but pick it up and continue it in our own way.

We restored Frida with a simple idea: to bring out what was already there. Puglia, the Valle d'Itria and its ancient stones have taught us that true beauty needs no embellishment. It is made of essential lines, honest materials and light that enters in the right way.

The interior of Frida evokes the intimate austerity of the trulli, while sitting in the centre of Noci. It is a gathered space, where every detail has been considered to ensure a comfortable stay without ever sacrificing simplicity. We sought a balance between the warmth of Apulian tradition and the precision of contemporary craftsmanship — so that those who come here can feel at home, but in a home that has something to say.

Every choice — from the linen weave to the colour of the walls, from the double bed to the way light moves through the rooms — is the result of slow, careful work. We did it the way you do things that truly matter: without haste, without shortcuts.

We are Antonio and Federica, and Frida Suite is the project we carry forward together, with effort and dedication, since this adventure began.

We do it for many reasons, but almost never the most obvious ones. It is not entrepreneurial ambition that drives us — if we were ranking motivations, that would come quite far down the list. For us, Frida is above all a way of contributing to the spirit of hospitality that has always defined Puglia and its people. It is a way of meeting travellers, of listening to new stories, and of being part — even for a few days — of the stories our guests are living.

The care we put into Frida is the same care we give to the things we hold most dear. Cleanliness and genuine hospitality come first for us — ahead of everything else, including profit. If our guests have a wonderful stay, we are content — and honestly, that is the real reason we keep doing this.

We would like those who cross our door to meet not just "two hosts", but two people. And to leave with something more than memories of the Valle d'Itria — the memory of a genuine encounter.

Every guest who enters Frida becomes, for a brief stretch, part of this story. That of Alessandro and Margherita, who kept this space alive. That of Franco and Ida, who trusted us with it. That of Antonio and Federica, who continue to care for it. And then yours — that of someone who arrives, perhaps in Puglia for the first time, and crosses the threshold carrying a journey, an anticipation, a story of their own.

Frida is all of this: a meeting point between generations, between tradition and hospitality, between those who stay and those who pass through. A small gesture of gratitude to our land, and an open invitation to those who want to know it truly.
